Day Without Immigrants

Today marks a national protest, Day Without Immigrants, where immigrants and supporters throughout the country are going on strike, refusing to work or open their businesses and avoiding shopping in an effort to show the White House the effect and far-reaching impact immigrants have.

This is particularly true in the restaurant and food industries which are heavily made up of immigrant workers, both documented and undocumented, in everything from agriculture to manufacturing to cooking. In a city like Jersey City, our immigrant population is especially crucial to the success of our restaurants as well as entirely responsible for the diversity in dining we enjoy.

In honor of the protest, Dulce De Leche Bakery and Restaurante y Panaderia Guatamalteco will both be closed today and it's likely many other restaurants and small businesses will be short-staffed and possibly closed as well.
