The Spirit of Sol Azteca Lives On in Tacos Victoria

After Sol Azteca filed suit against their landlords at 328 Montgomery where they've been struggling to open up for over a year, the truck they were running in the meantime disappeared off the streets and was no longer available on delivery platforms. As one of my favorite sources of Mexican food in Jersey City, this was a huge loss.

However, several weeks later, I spotted a new truck just about the same size and shape that had popped up on Columbus Ave with the name Tacos Victoria. When I got to check it out, I was beyond excited to discover the familiar staff from Sol Azteca in the window. They explained that since they haven't been able to operate Sol Azteca, a couple of the partners branched off and opened Tacos Victoria until things are resolved- offering the same extensive menu and most of the same recipes so all the same delicious food you know and love is still available.

My personal favorites are the Mexican Quesadillas -  made with freshly-made and hand-pressed tortillas, they're cooked to order so it takes a few minutes, but is well worth the wait. While I typically get them with the incredibly tender and flavorful carnitas, they're good with just about anything. Other favorites are the tostadas, crispy and generously-sized, and of course, the tacos stuffed with your choice of filling including a couple of solid vegetarian options (the cactus is excellent). You'll want to make generous use of their fresh, bright salsas that lean more heavily towards hot than mild to really get the full effect on everything.

Tacos Victoria is usually down by Exchange Place for lunch during the week and is out on Columbus and Marin most weeknights for dinner service. Stop by to support this truck, the dedicated workers keeping it going, and enjoy some delicious Mexican food.
