Bebop Roast is the brainchild of friends and Jersey City locals Brian and Phil who plan to run a series of short and long-term food and beverage events in Jersey City. Bebop Roast is their first project and will focus on serving pig-centric foods at farmers' markets and events around town.
Inspired by a pig roast they did for a friend's bachelor party, Bebop Roast "aspires to combine the simplicity of a pork roast with our favorite ideas, rooted in the spirit of fresh simple foods and the improvisational nature of cooking." This weekend marks the project's debut and they'll be at Van Vorst Market on an ongoing basis. They'll be creating 3-4 sandwiches each week with descriptions like the Swine-O: roasted pork, red wine mushroom reduction, sage ricotta, and mixed greens in apple cider vinaigrette on ciabatta bread. They plan to have a couple of ongoing staples but rotating in weekly specials and offering both breakfast and lunch options (although any sandwich can be ordered at any time) to accommodate the market's hours.
I'm particularly excited about this because a) I love roast pork and b)I've been following along with them on Instagram for the past several months and love the looks and sound of what they're creating. I think it's a great independent venture and I love seeing local creativity flourish - which is sometimes easier outside the restrictions of a formal restaurant/kitchen.
Visit Bebop Roast this weekend at the Van Vorst Park Farmer's Market from 8:00am -3:00pm
