Community News: Baonanas Named Best Dessert, Chili Cook-Off, and More

Jersey City
  • Congratulations to Baonanas who took home the Best Dessert award from this year's Vendy Awards honoring mobile vendors from all over New York and New Jersey. 
  • New Goan restaurant Bombay to Goa, located in Journal Square, received a rave review from Grub Street this week for their Ros omelette, a pepper and onion-stuffed onion covered with a rich chicken and coconut based gravy. It was called "One of the World's Great Egg Dishes". 
  • Registration is now open for the 4th Annual West Side Community Alliance's Chili Cook-off. The cook-off will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21st and registration is open until 10/15 - it's free to compete. 
  • Join Third & Vine this Thursday for a special five course Venetian Evening with wine pairings to match. The dinner begins at 6:30pm and tickets are $80/person. 
  • White Star has launched some new menu items in honor of Oktoberfest, including a new Okto-burger with sauerkraut, beer cheese, grain mustard and L/T/O. 
  • Bang Cookies has introduced a new line of booze-infused cookies like their bourbon kitchen sink cookies. 
  • B. Good is offering $1 smoothies all next week in select flavors from 2pm-close. The smoothies will be available every day. 
  • Corto officially started brunch/lunch service over the weekend. The menu contains a selection of salads, sandwiches, and pastas. 

Outside Jersey City
  • The 2nd Annual Hoboken Pizza Fest is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 13th at Our Lady of Grace Church. There are a number of pizza vendors from around Hoboken participating including Dozzino, Napoli's, Hot House Pizza and more. There will be two sessions and tickets start at $25/person with proceeds going to support True Mentors.
  • Bone-In is hosting their 1st Fall Harvest Pig Roast at Lima Family Farms on 10/20 from 1-7pm. The day will include tours of the 300+ acre farm, live music, games, a bonfire, and of course, lots of farm-to-table eats. Tickets are $75 with kids under 12 attending free.
