- With the ongoing and worsening budget shortfalls in our school system, Jersey City Public Schools are continually without water for students. Because of lead contamination, drinking fountains and sinks are unusable for drinking water and instead, the school system relies on outside bottled water because of the lack of budget to replace. However, it's expensive and the bottled dispensers often run out, leaving students without water for the day. To provide a more successful and environmentally sustainable solution, student Harshal Agrawal has started a petition proposing line filtration and lead testing.
- Talde is holding a special Kamayan dinner this Thursday, 9/13. The theme is Magellan's Takeover and the dinner will have a Spanish influence. Tickets are $75/person for all you can eat and drink.
- Liberty House is hosting a Fall Favorites cocktail class this Wednesday, 9/12. You'll be shown how to make some classic cocktails and there will be passed appetizers.
- Congratulations to Baonanas which was nominated as a Best Dessert Finalist for the 14th Annual Vendy Awards! They're one of five nominees who will head to the event on Governor's Island on 9/22 where a winner will be chosen.
- The Jersey City Public Library is hosting a fundraiser, "Escape to Margaritaville", on 9/20 at PJ Ryan's Squared. There will be free food and drinks, but tickets should be reserved in advance.
- Departed Soles is about two weeks away from releasing their fresh seasonal spiced pumpkin ale, Ghost of Pumpkins Past - a gluten-free beer.
- Harry's Daughter and Swatirastogi Arts have teamed up for a special event on Monday, 9/10 from 6-9pm. Buy a cocktail and get a free henna tattoo.
- This Monday is also Las Olas' Sushi & Karaoke Fundraiser.
Outside Jersey City
- Om Sweet Home will be hosting a Meatless Monday Pop-Up Dinner at Celebrate Life Studio next week, 9/17. There will be four courses with dessert and all dishes are both vegan and gluten-free and there will be a signature cocktail pairing.
- 902 Brewing has put out a new specialty beer, Juicy City, to celebrate their build-out zoning approval in Jersey City.
- Via Hoboken Girl, the Hoboken location of Walk to Wok has closed. The quick-casual stir-fry chain opened about a year ago in Hoboken after expanding from Manhattan.
