The Spirit of Sol Azteca Lives On in Tacos Victoria


After Sol Azteca filed suit against their landlords at 328 Montgomery where they've been struggling to open up for over a year, the truck they were running in the meantime disappeared off the streets and was no longer available on delivery platforms. As one of my favorite sources of Mexican food in Jersey City, this was a huge loss.

Community News: Corgi Spirits Opening, Food Truck Permits, Graze & Braise at Grove St.

Jersey City

  • Corgi Spirits is opening to the public this Saturday! The initial opening celebration will run from 4pm-10pm and then they'll be open regular hours the following week. Corgi Spirits will offer both distillery tours and information and a tasting room with a selection of specially-crafted cocktails featuring their distinct spirits. 
  • Congratulations to Milk Sugar Love whose Mac Daddy ice cream cakes were featured on Thrillist.
  • Congratulations to Pasta Dal Cuore who Maltagliata Pugliese was recently named one of the 35 best pasta dishes in New Jersey by Pete Genovese.

Community News: Piggyback Bar, Charlottesville, Ward Dinners

A note:

In addition, Jersey City Stands, The Hudson Pride Center, and The Jersey City Anti Violence Coalition Movement have banded together to host Stand for Peace on Monday on Newark Ave from 8-10pm.

Jersey City

  • Eater reports that Leah Cohen of Pig & Khao in the LES is opening an "Asian-accented tavern", Piggyback Bar, at Harborside. It will offer a mix of snacks and small plates with pan-Asian influences along with a number of larger entree dishes along with a full bar. It's currently expected to open in September. 
  • Battello had to temporarily shutter their doors this week, a month earlier than initially planned, so that necessary repairs could be made to the pier the restaurant is sitting on. They're anticipating reopening next spring. 
  • Third & Vine is hosting a Meet the Brewers Night with Transmitter Brewing this Tuesday, 8/15. There will be four beers paired with four cheeses for $35.

Project: EATS 2017 Meet the Vendor: Dark Side of the Moo

The Jersey City Project's Project Eats 2017 is back on 6/24 and 6/25 with new vendors and returning favorites, all ready to serve up some delicious, indulgent eats. To help get you ready, I'm excited to be collaborating with The Jersey City Project to spotlight some of the vendors from this year's Project Eats, learning more about their business, their food, and what they love about Jersey City.

This week, we're focusing on some favorite Jersey City vendors. Find out more about Dark Side of the Moo, a long time food truck and favorite neighborhood spot who will be bringing some extreme variety to Project: EATS

Rotary Club Food Truck Festival


This Saturday, 8/6, The Rotary Club of Jersey City is holding their Inaugural Food Truck Festival, free and open to the public. Located at Gundy Pier by Exchange Place, the festival will run from 12:00-7:00pm and will have food, drinks, live music, entertainment for kids, and more.

The Pop-Up Project LSP Opens this Weekend


A new art/food/music collective called Pop-Up LSP is debuting this weekend. Located near the waterfront on Liberty State Park at 1 Edward Hart Road, the organizers plan to run events every weekend beginning this weekend.

  • Congratulations to Liberty State Park on its 40th birthday. To celebrate, they'll be having a Bring Your Own Picnic celebration with cake, lemonade, and flags on Tuesday, 6/14 beginning at 5pm. 
  • Congratulations to Bucket + Bay for their feature in New Jersey Monthly.
  • Departed Soles is celebrating their first anniversary on Thursday, 6/16 with extended tasting room hours and the launch of a new beer, The Polish Goodbye. 
  • Iron Monkey is hosting a Meet the Brewer night with Yards Brewing Co. this Thursday, 6/16 beginning at 7pm.
  • Ozu Foods has restricted raw fish dishes to eat-in and take-out only during the summer months.
