Weekend Round-Up:Oktoberfest, Seafood Festival, and More

Happy Weekend Jersey City! Although festival season is beginning to die down as we head into the colder months, there's still some great outdoor events to enjoy.

Oktoberfest, Zeppelin Hall
Oktoberfest officially launches at Zeppelin Hall this Saturday. It will run through October 14th and features Oktoberfest beers and German dishes along with German party bands every Friday and Saturdday from 9pm - 1am.

• This Tuesday, join See Spot Rescued at The Archer for their 4th Annual Hair of the Dog fundraiser. Entry is free but they'll have raffle tickets and a silent auction.
• Riverview Farmer's Market has announced their vendor line-up including an ongoing rotation of food trucks.
• Baonanas is now available for pick-up at Banyan Cafe.

Jersey Fresh Peach Festival at Riverview Market

Next Sunday, August 2nd, the Riverview Farmers Market will be participating in the 4th Annual Perfect Peach Pie Contest!

This is a statewide contest run by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council that several markets throughout NJ participate in. The winners at each market go on to participate in a second and final round for a grand prize of $300.

Weekend Events

Bucket and Bay Gelato has been running their soft open all week and to kick off the start of their Grand Opening, they'll be having an opening party tonight, Friday 6/5, from 5pm-7pm with free cone giveaways!

It's also JC Friday celebrating art and live music throughout the city, and many of the events are taking places at local restaurants and bars. Check the list to find out where you can go for good food, drinks, and local art of all kinds. 

Market Season Begins!

It's Farmers' Market season in Jersey City! This weekend, Van Vorst Park and Riverview Market are kicking off the first Farmers' Markets of the season.

The market at Van Vorst starts Saturday morning at 8:30am and will run until about 3pm. This year, they're anticipating having their regular farmers with fresh produces, eggs, cheese, flowers, honey, and more as well as Hoboken Farms with lots of prepared specialties and breads, and X-Calibur for all your knife sharpening needs and they'll be welcoming O'LaLa Empanadas, a specialty high-end meat supplier, Bucket & Bay gelato, specialty pickle and olive oil vendors, and a fresh juice stand along with much more. Spending Saturday morning wandering through the beautiful Van Vorst Park is a great way to enjoy the weekend - especially with some modcup, another vendor at the market, in hand.

Halloween Weekend Events!

It's Halloween Weekend in Jersey City and there is a lot going on!

• The Iron Monkey is getting into the spirit with $6.66 drink specials tonight and the Samhain Soiree Costume Party tomorrow. There will be drink specials, free candy, and prizes.
• On Friday between 3:30pm-7:00pm, hang out on Newark Ave for the City of Jersey City's Family Halloween Bash. The 2nd Annual Halloween Parade will kick off at Gymboree at 3:30 and there will be festivities like a petting zoo, "Frozen" themed games, pony rides, S'mores from Bambino Chef and food will be available to purchase from Tea NJ, WORD, Roman Nose & more.
• After the Family Halloween Bash, Newark Avenue will continue the Halloween fun with the Newark Ave. Pedestrian Plaza Closing Party which will have food, cider, and beer from all over town, music from DJ Pastiche and dancing. This will be the last night of having Newark Ave closed off so make sure to enjoy it!

The Burger Battle at Zeppelin Hall continues this weekend and will run all through next week.

Join JC Families this weekend at Riverview Park from 10am-5pm for the 28th Annual Park Fest & Flea Market. There will be lots of vendors, kid-friendly activities, free zumba, food, live music & more.

Riverview Peach Pie Contest!

This past Sunday, I was a judge in the 2014 Perfect Peach Pie Contest at Riverview Farmers' Market . It was a great time and I was really grateful to be able to participate, taste all the pies, and enjoy the Riverview Farmers' Market.

Weekend Events!

Today marks the beginning of Chili Mania at Zeppelin Hall! From today, 8/1 through Sunday, 8/10, Zeppelin Hall will be serving thirteen different kinds of chili including a vegetarian option and a tasting platter.

Also in new and exciting menus, join Park & Sixth Gastropub this weekend as they introduce their new brunch menu.

Next Sunday, August 3rd, the Riverview Farmers' Market will be participating in the state-wide Peach Pie contest!

Oktoberfest Fundraiser!

Farms in the Heights, the Riverview Neighborhood Association and the City of Jersey City are holding an Oktoberfest-themed fundraiser this Saturday to help benefit the Riverview Farmers Market and the Riverview Jazz Festival.

Peach Pie Competition in Jersey City!

Yesterday, I received an email announcing a statewide peach pie contest! There will be competitions in south Jersey, central Jersey, and north Jersey with one of the competitions being held at our very own Riverview-FiskPark in Jersey City Heights at the weekly Riverview Farmers Market on Sunday, July 21st.  Winners will go on to present their pies on Good Day in New York or Pennsylvania and two grand prize winners will be chosen.

I am so excited about this – I love peaches, it’s a fun competition for the whole state to participate in, and we in Jersey City get to feature the event and enjoy it!  In addition to the competition and normal farmers market, there will be other fun peach-themed activities and events. This is being sponsored by the New JerseyPeach Promotion Council and the Market is organized by Farms in the Heights.  This is such a great community activity and so worth our support.
