Weekend Round-Up: West Side Chili Cook-Off, Ghost of Uncle Joe's, and More!

Happy Weekend, Jersey City! The weekend is full of fall events like hot chocolate and s'mores at Lutze's End of Season Party, a Chili Cook-Off, and The Ghost of Uncle Joe's along with much, much more. Here's what's going on:


Shucktoberfest, Zeppelin Hall
Head to Zeppelin Hall this weekend for their three day long Shucktoberfest featuring oysters on the half shell for $1.50 each. They'll have live 90s bands on Friday, a DJ on Saturday, and football all day Sunday.

Weekend Round-Up:Oktoberfest, Seafood Festival, and More

Happy Weekend Jersey City! Although festival season is beginning to die down as we head into the colder months, there's still some great outdoor events to enjoy.




Oktoberfest, Zeppelin Hall
Oktoberfest officially launches at Zeppelin Hall this Saturday. It will run through October 14th and features Oktoberfest beers and German dishes along with German party bands every Friday and Saturdday from 9pm - 1am.

Weekend Round-Up: City Scavenger Hunt, PRIDE Block Party, Gelato Festival and More

Happy Weekend, Jersey City! Pride is officially here and it's a weekend full of fun events, city spirit, and lots of great food. Here's what's going on:

Friday

Scavenger Hunt, City-wide
Beginning at noon, you can join a city-wide small business scavenger hunt, hosted by JCEDC Small Business Services. You'll receive clues to figure out which local businesses are part of the hunt, visit them to either make a small purchase or complete a task, and whoever visits the most businesses wins. You are allowed to work in teams and you must visit at least one business in every ward to be eligible to win. The scavenger hunt will run all weekend and close with a special party and award ceremony with prizes like a night at Hyatt House, gift cards and more beginning at 2pm on Sunday.

Angel Azul Cafe Anniversary Celebration, 460 Central Ave
Angel Azul Cafe, a family-run coffee shop with Colombian/Ecuadorian pastries and platters, is celebrating 20 years in business. They'll have a celebratory ribbon-cutting and other festivities beginning around 11am. Their delicious cafe con leche will be free from 11am-1pm and only .20 the rest of the day.

Join Sweetberry Bowls known for their super fruit smoothie bowls and salads, this Saturday for their Grand Opening celebration. They'll be opening at 8am and the first 50 people to visit will get a free bowl.

Weeekend Events: Frankie Celebrates Australia Day, Rita and Joe's Final Weekend, Mutzfest

Starting to get a little winter stir-crazy? It's going to be in the 50s this weekend and there are some great ways to eat and drink well this weekend, so make sure to get out and enjoy!

  • Australian-inspired Frankie, which opened late last year, is celebrating Australia Day the best way they can - with an Australia Day Bash! The party begins at 5pm and runs all night, featuring specials on Australian favorites like fish and chips, meat pies, and Coopers Ale.

Graze and Braise has launched a new winter menu (including two vegan dishes) and orders for next week are due in by 10pm tonight.

Weekend Events: Rocky Horror Nite, Twin Peaks Halloween, Corgi Spirits and more

I hope you have your costumes at the ready because this weekend is both the kick-off and the main event for Halloween. Just about every bar in town is having at least one celebration so you can enjoy just about anywhere, but here are a few highlights along with some other great events:

Friday

  • Join LITM for the start of a full weekend of Halloween festivities with their Two Nights In Neverland - they'll have music, dancing, $7 iced tea cocktails all night, and food specials. 
  • Fox and Crow is also joining in the two night party fun with Friday and Saturday nights themed as a Twin Peaks Halloween Weekend. The Parlour will transform into the Black Lodge, they'll have live music, homemade cherry pie, coffee cocktails, and costumes are encouraged.

Weekend Events: NYC Cider Week at Wurstbar, Hudson Hall Grand Opening

Friday, 10/20

  • Join Hudson Hall as they celebrate their Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting beginning at 4pm with live music, $5 house beers, and $10 pastrami sandwiches. 

Saturday, 10/21
  • Wurstbar is part of this year's NYC Cider Week and to celebrate, they'll be hosting a meet and greet with Steve Selin of South Hill and Phonograph Ciders starting at 5pm. They'll be offering five of his excellent ciders by the glass and will also be featuring a cocktail using his pommeau.
  • Join the Exchange Place Alliance as they host a hay maze and pumpkin patch in the Urby Parking Lot at 200 Greene Street from 11am-7pm. They'll have it both this Saturday and Sunday and next Saturday and Sunday.
  • LITM has a busy month full of Halloween activities including their Ghost of Uncle Joe's annual afterparty at 10pm with $7 iced tea cocktails and $7 nachos. 
  • Piggyback Bar opens this weekend for brunch, beginning at noon, and they'll also be offering dinner service on Saturday and Sunday. 

Sunday, 10/22
  • Join LITM for their Hurricane Irma Relief Concert along with Brockman's Gin and Out of the Margins Artist Alliance beginning at 9pm. $10 suggested donation.

Weekend Events: JCWSCA Chili Cook Off, Lafayette Oktoberfest, Mathews Brunch & More

Saturday, 10/7

  • Join Point Capital Development, Lucky 7's, and RDG Hospitality for the Lafayette Neighborhood Oktoberfest. The party begins at 12pm and runs through 8pm at the Baker Building, 234 Suydam Ave - there will be music, drinks, food from Mordi's Schnitzel, and more.

Friday, Sept. 29th

  • Swing by the Grind Shop to celebrate National Coffee Day with $1 small drip coffee.

  • Kick off the fall season with Oktoberfest at Departed Soles. They'll be releasing their very first lager, Helles Island and they'll have custom, limited edition steins available in the tasting room to give it a proper Oktoberfest tasting. They're also releasing Kimberly, a milkshake IPA.

Friday, 9/22

  • Whealth is hosting another Friday night dinner in their new cafe at Journal Squared. A $45 ticket will get you three courses of 2-3 farm-fresh tasting plates to share including this week's flambeed Peach Cassese.

Saturday, 9/23

  • This Saturday is the 8th Annual Hamilton Park BBQ Festival! The Festival runs from 12pm - 8pm on 9th Street and W. Hamilton. There will be live music, vendors, and lots of barbecue! Look forward to food from Carlito's (try the brisket taco), Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Hamilton Pork, Pet Shop (vegan options), Milk Sugar Love, and more.

Weekend Calendar of Events: Pride, Boxing, and Dinner in the Park




Friday, 8/25
  • It's the 2nd Annual Summer Sendoff Dinner at Van Vorst Park, beginning at 7pm. Tickets are $20, bring your own dinner and drinks, and they'll provide tables, flatware, plates, music, and a special ice cream dessert. 
  • There are a variety of Pride events all weekend long and Friday's festivities include a comedy night at Transmission from 7-9pm and a 70s dance party at FM beginning at 10pm
Saturday, 8/26

  • Saturday marks the actual Pride Festival beginning at 1pm on the Newark Ave Pedestrian Plaza. There will be music, dancing, drinks, and food along with an After Party at Transmission from 9pm - 2am.
  • Enjoy dinner at Van Vorst Park with the JC Parks Coalition for their Six Ward Dinner Series and fundraiser. Dinner is being prepared by Chef Steve of Caribbean Delicacies. Tickets are $35 for three courses. 
  • I don't really understand the appeal of boxing, but if you do:
    • O'Leary's will be screening the fight for $25 at the door with plenty of great food and drinks.
    • Lutze Biergarten is hosting a viewing inside the Harborside Atrium. $30 presale and $40 at the door with VIP and bottle service available. 
Sunday 8/27

  • To cap off Pride Week, join FM for their After Pride Hangover Brunch with music, a special menu, and of course, drinks. The performance starts at 1pm and reservations are recommended.

August 4th-20th

  • Join Surf City for their Paella Festival! It starts this Friday, 8/4 and runs through Sunday, 8/20
  • For many restaurants, it's the last day of Hudson Restaurant Week! Try out someplace new or go to an old favorite and enjoy three delicious courses. Special note - Latham House, one of my personal favorites, has extended their Restaurant Week menu through Saturday. 
Saturday, August 5th

  • Marketplace JC is hosting the second event in their 4-part summer series, Magnolia Landing, this Saturday from 11am-4pm at the corner of Magnolia and Summit Ave. Join them for live music, craft and vintage vendors, and some great food including How She Snow, serving Taiwannese shaved ice/ice cream; Yum Shack with Vietnamese flavor-inspired bowls, tacos & more; Square One with their delicious chocolate chip cookies, healthys snacks, and much more. 
  • Bloomsbury Square is moving from their spot at 942 Summit in the Heights, so make sure to stop by this Saturday between 4:30-7pm to say goodbye, enjoy some final DIY activities, and complimentary drinks and treats.
Sunday, August 7th
  • The Riverview Farmers' Market is kicking off National Peach Month with the 6th Annual Perfect Peach Pie contest and Peach Party. Check out all the special peach-influenced menus from vendors throughout the event.
  • Stop by Bambino Chef at 213 Newark Ave for their Annual Lemonade Stand Fundraiser for No Kid Hungry. The stand will be open from 11am-2pm.
