The Perfect Peach Pie Contest is back again for its 6th year at the Riverview Farmers Market.
Scheduled for this Sunday, August 7th, the contest is open to all New Jersey resident amateur bakers. All entries must be homemade using fresh Jersey peaches. Pies and cobblers are accepted and pies are judged on overall appearance, crust puffiness and color, arrangement of peaches (if open-top), aroma, color of filling, taste of filling, and taste of crust. Winners will receive prizes from local businesses and the 1st place winner will go on to the next round with the NJ Peach Promotion Council where they will compete with other local market winners for two cash Grand Prizes.
In order to participate, you must register by 11:30am the day of the contest, either online or in person. Judging begins at noon and winners are announced at 1:00pm. In addition to the peach pie competition, the whole market will be extra-festive with peach-based treats from many of the market vendors, live music, and activities for kids. The best part - once the judging is over, market-goers are welcome to try all the pies themselves.
