Within the first couple of months, they've expanded their selection to include not just their delicious artisan chocolates, but also pastries, tarts, and other baked goods - many of them incorporating the unique flavors they use in their truffles.

Short Grain: Great Place for a Quick Bite

While it wasn't the avocado toast that initally drew me in, I did give in to it. And I'm so glad I did.

Short Graina small but bright open space located right across from City Hall at 183 Montgomery Street,  opened in late May as a cafĂ© and eatery with a Vietnamese-influenced menu, Balthazar baked goods, and specialty coffee service. One of their first menu items was the avocado toast, capitalizing on a current trend and one that would appeal to the neighborhood, guaranteeing this place would spark a lot of initial interest.

Job Search In Jersey City

Lately, I've noticed a lot of restaurants and market vendors in Jersey City putting up posts that they're looking for extra staff and help so I decided to do a quick round-up of the job postings. If you're interested in learning the ropes of vending at a market or of working in a restaurant, or if you're experienced and looking for a change, check these out!

Taproot Organics, local organic soap makers, are looking for someone to help them out at the markets around town. Ideally, someone with restaurant or acting experience who is comfortable discussing the products, happily social, willing to work rain or shine, and has a reliable means of transportation. If interested, please DM them on twitter.

Weekend Events

This weeked in Jersey City is a busy one with a lot to eat do, so get ready!

Recently, Kraverie underwent some renovations and this Friday at 5pm is their Grand Re-Opening celebration with the mayor. They will have live music, food, and best of all, a special charity raffle for a private NY Harbor Sail for four people with catering provided by Kraverie. All proceeds will benefit Bike JC and their quest to help make Jersey City streets safer for bikers, a cause especially close to Kraverie after one of their founding members died after being hit by a car while biking.

Friday night also marks the soft opening for Pasta Dal Cuore who have been busy at work getting the restaurant portion of their space set-up and ready - including lots of recipe testing! Fresh pasta will feature heavily, but there will also be other Italian dishes on offer. The soft opening hours are from 5pm-10pm for dinner service. The fresh pasta counter will continue with regular hours.

This week, Cocoa Bakery has been offering special lemon blueberry cupcakes in honor of Cancer Survivor week and all proceeds will go to benefit charity organization, ChemoComfort. Get one while you can and show your support.

Two Years!

Yesterday was the two year anniversary of Jersey City Eats! Thank you so much to all of you who have been reading, commenting, emailing, and/or following me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. You have no idea how much I appreciate it and how fun it is to hear and see your responses!

The past year has been huge in Jersey City - it seems like we haven't gone more than a couple weeks without someplace new opening. In addition, Pacific Flea and 6th Borough Market have both come back with a vengeance, and Farmers' Markets have expanded all over town.

To help celebrate the past year of writing this blog and enjoying the ever-growing food scene in Jersey City, I picked some of my personal favorite dishes I've had over the past year. This has become incredibly hard to do because there are so many things I've enjoyed and that I think about over and over again; but still, decisions must be made. So here are some of my top favorites, some of which have been posted before and some which haven't:

One of the chef's daily crudo from The Kitchen at Grove Station - this tuna with watermelon radish, black sesame, and hot chiles was refreshing, slightly citrusy, and had just the right amamount of heat. Not to mention it was beautifully plated.

Beef Short Rib Kare Kare from Talde - My experiences thus far at Talde have been a bit mixed with the great items being really great and the rest being....forgettable. The Beef Short Rib Kare Kare is the former. It redefined the term "melt in your mouth" for me and is incredibly tender, dissolving into an explosion of slightly spicy, peanutty, beefy flavor.

Honey corncake ice cream from Milk Sugar Love - sweet, buttery, toasted crunchy goodness packed with honey, this immediately became one of my favorite flavors from Milk Sugar Love.

Gimlet from dullboy - sometimes the simple things are the hardest to do, but the bartenders at dullboy have had no trouble mastering this excellent, just limey enough gin gimlet. I hope to drink this as much as I can all summer long.

Slice from Rizzo's - I just recently enjoyed this absolutely giant slice from this old school Italian deli in the heights and was blown away. Not only is it huge and cheap, it's a great example of what a good reliable, classic slice of pizza should be.

Fried beef tendons from Thirty Acres - I didn't get a picture, but I had them one of the last nights before Thirty Acres started their tasting menu and they were out-of-this-world delicious. Essentially, chewy, sticky, crunchy beef candy.

Thanks again Jersey City and let's keep eating well!

Brooklyn's Robicellis is available in Jersey City!

Jersey City, I have some truly great news.
Famed and drool-inducing Brooklyn bakery Robicelli's is available right here in town! Known for their creative, decadent, and unique baked goods, (that I have long been ogling and dying to have easy access to) especially their cupcakes, Robicelli's has been even more in the spotlight since last summer's Lasagne a la Nutella - so imagine my surprise when I found out that they've been being sold in Jersey City and I had no idea.
