Journal Square Green Market

Next Wednesday, June 17th, marks the launch of this year's Journal Square Green Market! Not only is it the start of the season, but it's the start of a new market with a new focus.

This season, the market is being run by the Journal Square Restoration Corporation (who operate the Journal Square Special Improvement District) and they hope to bring a renewed energy to the market, reflecting the ongoing growth and development of the neighborhood. With the help of the Friends of the Loew's who sucessfully kept the market going for a large part of its twenty year history the Journal Square Green Market is hoping to transition and expand, focusing on Jersey Fresh produce and products, artisanal goods, and an overall green mentality.

The Journal Square Green Market will operate right outside the Journal Square PATH station every Wednesday and Friday from 11am until 8pm. Vendors include two NJ Fresh farms, Stony Hill Farms and Alstede Farms, local organic soapmakers Taproot Organics, pickle and olive vendor Dr. Pickle, and more!

The market organizers are also hoping to get local brick and mortar businesses involved, allowing them space for pop-up shops to provide an opportunity for small businesses and the local community to interact and they're especially interested in having local neighborhood restaurants vend. There's a diverse dining scene in the Journal Square area and what better way to show it off?

While the market won't officially launch until next Wednesday, market vendors are invited to be part of this Saturday's festivities for the 10th Annual Egyptian Festival which draws thousands of people to the area every year so stop by to see what's coming and enjoy some Egyptian culture, food, and music while you're at it!

Show your support for the market and help it grow by shopping local. Happy Market Season, Jersey City!
