Midnight Market Throws a Foodie Luau

Midnight Market, the first and only night market in Jersey City, is changing up their monthly festival and will be throwing a summer-inspired Foodie Luau at Magnolia Landing (136 Magnolia Ave) in Journal Square this Friday, beginning at 5pm.

The luau will feature Midnight Market's signature $5 pricing - $5 entry, $5 drinks, and $5 bites from a select group of vendors - along with their usual great dance party vibe, a DJ mixing it up with old school and newer choices, games, and this month, they're also bringing in a henna vendor and a massage vendor.

I recently caught up with Lisi and Perla, the organizers of Midnight Market, to learn more about this month's event and what we can expect.

What made you excited about changing over to Magnolia Landing for this month's event?
We are so excited to have the opportunity to move to a new neighborhood! The location is literally 2 steps from the JSQ Path hub, so transportation and access is super easy.  Parking is directly behind us and it's actually affordable! $8 for 4 hours... not bad at all.  It's also cool to have the chance to create the feel of a real outdoor night market. We can wait to see all of our red tents lit up with bistro lights hung from the trees!

What can we expect with a luau theme?
We thought a luau theme would be a great kickoff to a new neighborhood and outdoor venue.  Who doesn't love the island vibes of a luau in the summer?!  Eemas will of course be representing Hawaii with their musubi and platters! Sisig City is doing lechon- a whole pig! Runa Peruvian is bringing out the seafood and making ceviche!

All of our vendors always do an awesome job of tailoring their menus to fit the theme. Expect lots of island vibes and flavors!  The space will be decorated with Hawaii in mind and we'll be giving away a lei to the first 150 guests that arrive with Eventbrite tickets.  At 9pm we're going to host a limbo contest and the winner gets 2 tickets to the LSC After Dark event on August 17.

Will there be any changes to the event?
Think of it as a "Midnight Market Lite".  It's a Summer Friday event so it'll start earlier and end a little earlier so people can hit it on their way down to the shore on Friday!  As always, $5 entrance, $5 food, and $5 drinks.  The bar is doing craft NJ beers, wine, and sangria. The event starts at 5pm and goes until 10pm (or a little later if everyone's enjoying!)  Magnolia Landing is smaller than the atrium so we'll have 14 food vendors, a henna vendor, and a massage vendor.

It's a new venue, new neighborhood, so we're bringing out some new vendors that we're really pumped to introduce to our MMJC foodies!  Additionally, LSC After Dark will be there, promoting our collaboration with them for Pride the following week.

The important stuff. Who will be serving food?
Vendors include:
O'lala Empanadas
Eemas
Sisig City
Bearded One BBQ
Swank Rolls
Two Crepes
The Guac Spot
Runa Peruvian
Delenio
META
Taste of Poland
Moffle Bar
How She Snow
Glazed and Confused
Salted Caramel Pretzel mini-doughnuts from Glazed & Confused

It sounds like it's going to be a great way to celebrate summer and kick-off a great weekend. For more information on Midnight Market and to buy your tickets ahead of time, visit their website and keep up with them on Facebook and Instagram so you can see where in the city they'll be popping up next! As a reminder, the event is 21+ and cash only.
