Community News: Piggyback Bar, Charlottesville, Ward Dinners

A note:

In addition, Jersey City Stands, The Hudson Pride Center, and The Jersey City Anti Violence Coalition Movement have banded together to host Stand for Peace on Monday on Newark Ave from 8-10pm.

Jersey City

  • Eater reports that Leah Cohen of Pig & Khao in the LES is opening an "Asian-accented tavern", Piggyback Bar, at Harborside. It will offer a mix of snacks and small plates with pan-Asian influences along with a number of larger entree dishes along with a full bar. It's currently expected to open in September. 
  • Battello had to temporarily shutter their doors this week, a month earlier than initially planned, so that necessary repairs could be made to the pier the restaurant is sitting on. They're anticipating reopening next spring. 
  • Third & Vine is hosting a Meet the Brewers Night with Transmitter Brewing this Tuesday, 8/15. There will be four beers paired with four cheeses for $35.
  • The Jersey City Parks Coalition is hosting a series of  fundraising Ward Dinners in parks across the city with rotating guest chefs. This past weekend, they hosted the first in the Heights at Riverview Park. The next in the series will be at Van Vorst Park on 8/26.
  • New food truck Chubby's Sandwiches will be open for business near Exchange Place this Tuesday. They will be serving both breakfast and lunch. 
  • Another new food truck, No Forks Given NJ, had their soft opening this Sunday at Exchange Place. Stay tuned as they open back up and become regular vendors in Jersey City. 
  • A Whodunnit Murder Mystery event at The Harsimus Cove Cemetary has been announced for Saturday, September 9th. Tickets are $55 each.
  • Via JC Upfront, Asbury Park's Juice Basin is expanding to Jersey City, opening at 336 Second Street. This will be their third location. 
  • It seems likely that A Little Gelato will close their Jersey City Heights location at the end of August and look for another space outside of Jersey City, although they have not officially confirmed anything.
Outside Jersey City
  • Bucket & Bay has opened a second location in Hoboken at 153 1st Street. They'll be serving 12 flavors of gelato and sorbet, gluten-free cones, and grass-fed dairy products. The new location will be open from 2pm-10pm every day. 
  • Brooklyn Square Pizza in Jackson, NJ was named the Best Pizza in NJ by Pete Genovese in his recent NJ Pizza showdown (of which Razza was a top 10 finalist) and De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies in Robbinsville won Reader's Choice.
