Over the past weekend, Hurricane Harvey caused devastating flooding throughout parts of Texas, displacing thousands, destroying homes, and injuring many others. If you'd like to help, here are some good options:

Jersey City

  • In sad news, Brazicki's Tavern in Jersey City Heights is closing after 72 years in business.
  • Light Horse Tavern has updated their cocktail menu.
  • If you're a local vendor, both the Monticello Avenue Street Fair and Marketplace JC are looking for a few more vendors for upcoming events.
  • Surf City started their annual Shrimp Tsunami menu early last week and it continues through 9/17.
  • Jersey City Fish Stand is having a clam pie eating contest this Thursday 8/31 with all proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County. Email them at info@thefishstand.com to sign up as a contestant.
  • Join Satis Bistro on 9/14 as they celebrate Oktoberfest with a four course German-inspired dinner and beer pairing. Reservations are required.

Outside Jersey City
  • German grocery store chain Lidl appears to be eyeing New Jersey as their next space for expansion. They plan to open their first store in NJ no later than 2018.
  • Porta is expanding to Philadelphia and is expected to open this fall.
  • Barcade has opened in Newark.
