Community News: Central Bistro Now Open, La Cote Hosting Wine Tasting, and More

Jersey City
  • Central Bistro recently opened at 403 Central Ave in the Heights, serving a mix of Mexican and Italian dishes. They are open beginning at 9am Saturday through Monday and beginning at 10am Tuesday through Friday and close at 10pm daily. 
  • Frankie has launched a CBD oil mocktail menu so you can enjoy the relaxing effects of CBD without the hangover of a cocktail.

The Jersey City Project's Project Eats 2017 is back on 6/24 and 6/25 with new vendors and returning favorites, all ready to serve up some delicious, indulgent eats. To help get you ready, I'm excited to be collaborating with The Jersey City Project to spotlight some of the vendors from this year's Project Eats, learning more about their business, their food, and what they love about Jersey City.

Construction Update - The Cliff, Choc-O-Pain

Not that this will come as a surprise given its popularity, but Jersey City Heights is quickly becoming one of the busiest neighborhoods to check out for new restaurants. Given that, more construction updates are here - check out two new spots opening within the next few weeks in the Heights and stay tuned for a bigger update on seven more places opening this year.

  • Subia's has started carrying a selection of baked goods (including doughnuts) from the renowned Vegan Treats in Pennsylvania. 
  • South House is offering a special menu with Cajun specialties this Tuesday for Mardi Gras.
  • The JC Village Association shared this great article from the New York News Magazine in 1976 going over the history of the village and local favorites like Pecoraro Bakery. 
  • Third & Vine is introducing a new seasonal tart - lemon meringue with raspberry coulis.

  • Park & Sixth has created a new back bar in their space and revamped the cocktail menu. 
  • Dark Side of the Moo expanded their offerings this week and are now offering gluten-free burger rolls and alligator empanadas and have started carrying Baonanas at the store. 
  • A new Indian restaurant, Spice Club, has opened at 789 Newark Avenue, taking over the former Masala space.
  • Congratulations to Hamilton Pork on their three star review and write-up in NJ Monthly.

  • If you're vegan, vegetarian, or curious, a new social media dedicated to finding plant-based food in Jersey City has started: @JCVeganProject
  • 9th and Coles has officially reopened with Chef Joe Francis (Union Republic, The Corkscrew) at the helm. They started their soft opening late last week and will continue adding more food and specials in the coming weeks.

  • La Festa Italiana has put out a call for two new or in good, working condition refrigerators ahead of the festival after two of the parish refrigerators broke.
  • Milk Sugar Love and Torico's were featured on NJ.com this week as part of the search for NJ's best ice cream.

  • Lucky 7's Annual Rock 'N Roll BBQ is next Saturday, 7/16 beginning at 1pm.
  • The painting that was stolen from Two Boots last weekend has been returned and no charges are being pressed. 
  • Tea NJ has announced that beginning this Tuesday, there will be vegan burgers on the menu. 
  • Talde JC is hosting another Kamayan dinner this Tuesday, 7/12 and tickets are $55/person.
  • Lafayette Corner Store has announced they'll begin offering delivery to parts of the Lafayette Area.

  • Coach House is hosting a Bourbon Tasting Night on Tuesday, 5/31 from 7:30-9pm for $20/person. The night includes passed appetizers, tasting of brands Makers Mark, Basil Hayden's, and Buffalo Trace and features how to make the bourbon-based Mint Julep and Manhattan. Graze and Braise Launches Spring Menu

Local paleo delivery service Graze and Braise is launching their new spring menu tomorrow.
The updated menu features more salads and a couple of lighter entree options in preparation for spring and warmer weather.
