Community News: Battello Update, Satis Tapas & Sangria Dinner, and more

Jersey City

  • Left Bank Burger Bar was hit with some controversy this weekend when a picture was tweeted of their food truck entering the Trump National Golf Club at Bedminster. They later tweeted a clarification that they had been contracted by Trenton to sell food to the NJ state and local law enforcement and military staff that were working long shifts without the opportunity to leave the site to eat. 
  • Congratulations to Prato Bakery who celebrated the ribbon-cutting of their new location last Thursday. 
  • Battello has provided an update on their reopening after being shut down last summer for necessary repairs to the pier the restaurant is located on. The work has been delayed because of weather but they are hoping to move back in and reopen in early fall.

New Restaurant Round-Up

It's been a particularly busy season for restaurants and eateries opening in Jersey City so it's easy to have missed a couple along the way. To help make it easier, here's a round-up of everything that's opened recently.

Frankie - An Australian-inspired restaurant and bar, specializing in natural wines that opened in mid-October. Located at 264 Grove Street, Frankie is open from 5pm onwards Tuesday through Sunday.

New Butcher Shop Darke Pines Opening Downtown


Downtown Jersey City can expect to see a new butcher shop focused on local and sustainable products opening up early next year.

After two and a half years of planning and construction, Whealth is getting ready to open their cafe at Journal Squared, 615 Pavonia Ave, to the public this Friday.

Jersey City

  • The Cliff will be opening to the public this Saturday, 4/22. They'll be open and serving brunch from 8am-4pm. 
  • Well-known Cuban restaurant Rumba Cubana is expanding to Jersey City. They'll be opening this fall in the new Park Francis building near Hamilton Park.
  • After a long renovation period, 99 Ranch Market on Grand Street is celebrating their Grand Opening this Friday, 4/21 at 9am with giveaways, special discounts and more. There will be an on-site bakery, a gourmet Asian deli, and other specialty items.

Construction Update: Ani Ramen Announces Opening, 9 Bar Cafe, Ample Hills Creamery

Get ready, Jersey City! Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be posting a series of construction updates from all over town and over the next several months, prepare to see a lot more new places opening up.

First on the list, one of the most anticipated openings of the year: Ani Ramen House at 218 Newark Avenue.

Community News


  • A "For Sale" listing has been posted online for Marco & Pepe. While it hasn't yet been confirmed by the owners, the listing is for the whole property, turnkey restaurant and event space included, for $3.7 million.
  • A new restaurant, Nana Thai, is coming to Central Ave. There doesn't seem to be a website yet, but it seems like they just opened to the public and they'll eventually be open every day from 6am-10pm.
  • Burger Eatery is celebrating their one year anniversary on Wednesday with a party and free classic singles from 3-5pm.

  • Feed JC is collecting hats, gloves, and scarves through 12/22 to donate on Christmas Day. Pick-up spots include Base NJ, Whealth, Squeeze'd, Garden Steaks, World Boxing Gym, O'Leary's, Light Rail Cafe.
  • Congratulations to The Hudson Kitchen on finding commercial kitchen space which will be available for lease beginning 1/3/17. 
  • A new juice bar, Tropix Juice, has opened at 245 Central Ave.

  • Per Erin DeLaney, a new deli on Summit Ave called Grub Mutz will open on Tuesday after having had their soft open over the weekend. 
  • Koro Koro and their new food truck will now be at the Hamilton Park Farmer's Market every Wednesday from 3pm-7:30pm.
  • Ozu Foods will be closed this Tuesday and Wednesday, but will be launching lunch service shortly after that in Mid-November.

La Mexicana To Replace Colonette Diner

Jersey City is getting another Mexican restaurant!

After Colonette Diner closed their doors, the space on Rt. 440 sat empty for quite some time but now it looks as though La Mexicana, a new restaurant and lounge, has moved in and is bringing it back to life.

  • Congratulations to Lisi Vasquez of Chilltown Kitchen who will be featured on the Food Network's Chopped on October 25th. 
  • The Grind Shop announced they're expanding to a second location - they'll be opening inside The Baker Building later this month. 
  • Sweets 4 Miles, a bakery formerly located on Ocean Ave, celebrated the opening of their new shop at 410 MLK Drive this weekend. 
  • Congratulations to Squeeze'D who opened a pop-up spot at 8 Springs Studio, 300 Coles Street.
