Get to Know JC Eater: Gabriela

Welcome to "Get to Know JC Eater" where every week I post a profile of a local resident sharing where and what they love to eat in Jersey City.  This site is meant to be useful to the community so what better way to do that than involve the community itself? If you'd like to be featured, please leave a comment below or email me directly.

This week's JC Eater is an adventurous eater living in Jersey City Heights who knows where to get  a good martini.

New on Newark Food Tour

A couple of months ago, I joined what was Garden State Food Tours for a tour (full disclosure: it was a trial run and I paid a discounted price).Since then, Garden State Food Tours has evolved into Jersey Girls Food Tours and while the name has changed, the tours are staying!

The one I went on is called New on Newark and it focuses on several of the new restaurants and cafes that have opened up along Newark Avenue in downtown Jersey City. While the locations can be subject to change depending on availability, you can count on hitting several major spots like Union Republic, Left Bank Burger Bar, Tea NJ & more.

Easter Weekend Info

*UPDATED*

In honor of Easter weekend, there are some events around Jersey City you may want to enjoy no matter how or what you celebrate!

First up, keep in mind Tea NJ will be closed for Good Friday 4/18, and will reopen for standard business hours on Saturday. Sam a.m. will be open today and tomorrow, but will be closed on Sunday. Rustique Pizza will also be closed on Sunday.

So far, those are the only closings I've heard about, but I'll update if/when I hear any more and if you know of any, please let me know!

Cocoa Bakery will be open until 3pm on Sunday if you need some last minute treats including their Cream Puffs! Stop by early to grab some because they are only offered a few times a year.

UR Prime, the locally sourced butcher shop that's part of Union Republic, has a lot of easter lamb specials going on if you want to cook up a feast at home.

Photo: This Friday is the last day to place your Easter order for pickup on Saturday!
If you'd rather go out than stay in, don't worry, Jersey City has that covered too.

  • If you're looking for some brunch suggestions around Jersey City, check out this post from The Chilltown Chronicle discussing some favorites.
  • The new Mod Cup Cafe continues to be a big success and now they are hoping to expand the team! Stop by the cafe this week to speak with Justin (and bring a resume) if you're interested.
  • Speaking of Mod Cup, it appears they are now selling exfoliating coffee soap and they are also changing the brewing class schedule so that going forward, it will be held once a month.
