The Pie Social is Jersey City's New Pie Destination

New pie stand and online business, The Pie Social , debuted at the Van Vorst Farmer's Market early this summer, bringing their midwestern and southern-inspired pies to downtown Jersey City.

After a short break at the markets, Pie Social came back in early fall with an expanded range of products like hand pies, handmade poptarts, and some collaborations with WHOS Gluten-Free. The pies range in styles and flavors with everything from traditional berry and apple pies to Southern favorites like Buttermilk Chess Pie and updated classics like the Bees Knees Salted Honey Pie.

Some of my favorites have included:
The Strawberry Lemon Lattice Pie with a bright, sweet filling that tasted like strawberry lemonade and the best parts of summer.

The Salted Chocolate Chess Pie which had a rich but not overly dense filling with a deep chocolate flavor akin to brownie batter but less cloying. The addition of the sea salt on top really takes this pie to a new level.

And the Kentucky Transparent Pie with its tightly packed crumb crust and gooey, buttery, sweet filling topped with just a thin layer of powdered sugar to enhance the decadence.

The pies come in 6", 9", and by the slice. The options at the market vary week by week with recent offerings including a Sweet Potato Marshmallow Meringue and a Pumpkin Noir pie spiked with bourbon for the holidays. The pies are always made fresh with rich, buttery crusts and will last several days, especially in the fridge.

While The Pie Social is already sold out for Thanksgiving, you can still get your pies this Saturday at the Van Vorst Farmer's Market or on Sunday, in a special collaboration with CoolVines.
