Fundraising around Jersey City

As most of you probably know by now, there was a major fire on Grove Street last Wednesday, Nov. 27th that demolished two buildings and caused damage to several others. A total of 22 residents have been displaced and several businesses were affected including Buon Appetito and Orale. This is a huge and devastating loss but people and business owners all over Jersey City are banding together to help out.

Currently, United Way of Hudson County is handling all the donations and is the main point of contact for helping the victims. You can donate $10 by texting 5200 with the subject Fire to donate to the victims and they are waiving all fees so 100% of your donations with go to help the victims of the fire. Additionally, Port-O Lounge held a fundraiser yesterday and Thirty Acres donated all their profits from Saturday's dinner service to help. There are several more fundraisers planned around Jersey City if you'd like to help.

Tonight, GP's in Hamilton Park is hosting a happy hour from 5-7pm with a percentage of bar sales going to the victims and there will be gift basket raffles for those attending: https://www.facebook.com/events/739796559383882/

LITM will be collecting clothes and non-perishable goods throughout the next couple of weeks and will also be hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152057243840930&l=cbfb2d3ae7

Two Boots is acting as another donation point for food, clothes, etc. and will be having a fundraiser next Monday, December 9th from 6-9pm. There will be a donation fee of $15 and you will get a slice of pizza and a beer with live music provided by Rock-It Docket. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2013/11/two_boots_jersey_city_to_hold_fundraiser_for_22_displaced_individuals_due_to_4-alrm_fire.html

The Bistro at Grove Square is also pitching in with donation efforts and has a banner up announcing they will be donating 10% of all profits through December to the fire victims.

Thank you to everyone organizing, pitching in, donating to, or enjoying any of these fundraising efforts and to UWHC. While the circumstances are horrific, the community spirit and generosity that has been shown is incredible. Within a few hours, people all over town were sharing information, offering help, reaching out to neighbors and friends demonstrating why Jersey City is such a great place to live.
