Kicking May Off With a Bang!

If this first weekend of May is any indication, Jersey City is in for a great month! There are tons of events and parties happening all around town, so start figuring out your schedule right now so you can hit as many as possible.

Start it up tonight with a free beer tasting at Thirsty Quaker with Starr Hill Brewery from 7pm-9pm

Then on Friday:
Maifest, the traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring, begins at Zeppelin Hall. It will run from May 2nd to May 10th and they'll have five different Maibock beers on tap, special menu items ranging from traditional German to imported pretzels from Munich, and there will be German oompah bands on Friday and Saturday nights.

There's also a Cinco de Mayo Parade and Fiesta, hosted by Silverman, right by City Hall, running from 4pm until midnight. There will be music, drinks, and delicious food provided by The Taco Truck, El Chilango, and Milk Sugar Love, just to name a few.

On Saturday:
It's going to get spicy as Saturday is the day of the 5th Annual 4th Street Arts Chili Cook-off with a Home Brew sampling from the Jersey City Home Brew club. From 12:30pm-5pm, you can try all the different chilis, entered by local restaurants and local residents, watch the judging and vote for your favorite! The beer tasting will be available during two different seatings and keep in mind, tickets are limited. All proceeds from the event go to help support 4th Street Arts and tickets can be bought online.

Battello will be hosting a Kentucky Derby Party with all day drink specials including $7 Makers Mark Mint Juleps and discounted Veuve Cliquot. Derby Best dress encouraged.

9th and Coles will also be serving up plenty of Mint Juleps in celebration of the Kentucky Derby and while post time isn't until 5:45pm, go early to get your drinks in and make sure you get a good seat to watch.

Both Park and Sixth locations will be offering Mint Juleps and Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwiches (the combo will only run you $15) and they want to see everyone's hats.

Sunday
Amongst a weekend full of DJ's, drink, and food specials, Orale MK will be having a special Cinco de Mayo brunch.

If you make it through all of that more or less intact, Sunday morning marks the return of the Farmers Market Farm in the Heights! Held at Riverview Park from 9am - 2pm, this farmers' market will have live music, a pinata making class to keep kids occupied, Jersey City Veggie Burgers, yoga, Cholita Dessert Bar and so much more.
