Community News: Modcup Opens New Location, Women's History Month Cookie, Chili Cook-Off in Hoboken

Jersey City


  • Stop by Choc O Pain anytime this March for their special black and purple cookie honoring Women's History Month. A portion of all proceeds will go to I Am That Girl, an organization dedicated to providing empowerment opportunities, tools, and a community for girls everywhere. 
  • Modcup has opened a pop-up counter in Plaza 5 of Harborside. It opens at 7am every Monday through Friday. They also currently have the truck serving coffee in the atrium between Plazas 2 & 3. 
  • VB3 is hosting a four course dinner and Jim Beam whiskey pairing this Wednesday 3/7, beginning at 6:30pm for $50.00/person. Seating is limited. 
  • Dark Side of the Moo has started selling chili cheese fries - and they're not just sticking with regular chili cheese fries; they also have chorizo cheese fries. 
  • Andrea Salumeria is raffling away a 20lb Italian Chocolate Easter Egg. Stop in now to buy your raffle tickets - 2 for $1. 
  • Corgi Spirits has a new spring seasonal release this month, Bee Blossom Gin. It will release on St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, 3/17.
  • Smith, the organization behind Porta, has launched a new foundation: Pizza Saves. Their first initiative is to help students who are participating in the National School Walkout on April 20th to advocate for gun reform. 
  • The Riverview Farmers' Market is looking for vendors for the upcoming market season. 



Outside Jersey City
  • Head to Garden State Plaza on Thursday, March 15th for the North Jersey BBQ Showcase and Throwdown featuring 10 barbecue restaurants throughout New York and New Jersey including Jersey City's own Hamilton Pork. Tickets are $50/person and $25 for children under 12 and include samples from the participating restaurants and a chance to vote for People's Favorite. 
  • Jerkin Chicken recently received a truck vending permit for Hoboken and expect to make their debut there this March. 
  • The 9th Annual Hoboken Chili Cook Off and Homebrew Competition is coming up this Saturday, 3/10.  All proceeds go towards TRUE Mentors, Hoboken's one-to-one mentoring program.
