Cafe Batata is Now Open!

Cafe Batata, which moved into the former Lamp Post space on 2nd street last year, is now  open.

Cafe Batata is a Brazilian cafe serving Brazilian coffee and homemade pastries, but their main focus is their Batata menu - Brazilian-Swiss potato pancakes stuffed with your choice of toppings. There are a couple of vegetarian options available, but no vegan. You can also choose to add on a couple different salads.

Their hours for now are 8am-9pm Monday - Friday and 10am-midnight Saturday & Sunday.

    1. I haven't been in myself and so don't know how they're preparing everything, but I will ask. I would actually think most of these are gluten-free unless they're adding flour or another gluten-based thickener/binder to the potatoes, but I don't know for sure and will try to find out.

  2. Can they add a bit more dairy to that menu?

    1. Ha! It is pretty heavy on the dairy, but from my understanding, that's not unusual with this kind of menu.

  3. $13 for a cup of chili!?!?! JFC.

This menu (or screen shot) is a perfect example of whats wrong with JC's dining scene. Overly convoluted and overly priced garbage food that 95% of people do not want. People....we live in the 2nd, soon to be 1st largest city in NJ!

You dont see Hoboken or Edgewater serving this weird junk that the majority of people (working professionals making $60K or more) dont want.

    1. "Beef Chili" is the filling of the batata suiƧa. See http://www.dicascaseiras.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/BATATA-SUI%C3%87A.jpg for an example.

What is it exactly that Hoboken and Edgewater have that we do not?
