After having spent the last two years in a small storefront on Baldwin Avenue not far from Journal Square, Pr&ince took over a former bodega on Wayne Street in search of a little more room and a little more foot traffic. While it's still a work in progress, the restaurant has opened and although it's still on the cozier side, there's enough room for a group as well as a couple of smaller tables.
Known and loved as much for its unique Thai-inspired flavors and menu as for the chef and owner Yuth's dedication, the restaurant is often referred to as a one man show. Yuth seats you, takes your order, immediately runs to cook everything fresh, and then serves it back to you without any help or break in his flow of work. It can require a bit of patience if it's a busy night, but his friendliness and delicious food help make that easy.
The menu at the new location has expanded somewhat with more additions to come, but what you can expect is a handful of proteins ranging from white fish to crab cakes to pork belly, marinated in or cooked with various Thai-inspired spices and served with pad thai, rice, buckwheat or sweet potato noodles, or over salad. He also has some soups available and a couple of specialty dishes like pineapple fried rice. Substitutions are rarely an issue and his main focus is on making sure you get what you want. It's not traditional which is something Yuth takes pride in, offering his own take on what he wants his food to be, but it is very fresh, very flavorful and very good.
Prices range from the $10-$20 mark and it is BYOB. Stop by 80 Wayne Street to welcome Pr&ince to downtown and enjoy this unique, charming, and creative culinary experience.
