Honey Bakery, the much-loved Russian/Uzbekistan/Korean bakery and cafe, has closed for retail business and will instead be focusing on catering for the time being.
Located at 673 Bergen Ave in McGinley Square, Honey Bakery announced
their closing this past weekend, saying that it just wasn't possible to continue daily operation in Jersey City. The family behind the bakery is moving but they're not completely closing just yet. They will offer large-scale catering and have said they'll try to get a couple of their famed block parties going as well.

Pelmeni |
A small, but colorful and vibrant space, Honey Bakery was entirely family-run and both a neighborhood hang-out and a dining destination. Their cottage cheese cookies earned rave reviews and their lamb pilaf and pelmeni (tiny russian dumplings) were personal favorites. The food was delicious, familiar but unique, and always fun. There were pickled vegetables to go with everything, strong coffee, excellent infused lemonades and teas, and giant loaves of dense, rich bread.

Although this is a major loss for Jersey City, here's hoping for the best for Honey Bakery and that their future operations will bring them all the success they deserve.
