Dinner in the Park Series #3

This Saturday is the third event in the Dinner in the Park Series, a program benefiting Jersey City parks and helping feed the homeless with each dinner estimated to feed over 100 less fortunate. This great project is being put on by FeedJC, a collaboration between Whealth and Andy's Market, and also act as a training ground for Jersey City teenagers hoping to work at restaurants and in food service.

Each dinner is held at a different park in a different ward of Jersey City to help celebrate that culture and neighborhood. Lincoln Park and Van Vorst Park have been checked off the list and this week's dinner is in Pershing Field in Jersey City Heights.

To get a better sense of what you can expect from these dinners, check out my photos from the dinner in Van Vorst Park :

There is a long table, beautifully and seasonally set, with water and lemonade ready for you to enjoy.

Each dinner is inspired by local culture, local ingredients, and local residents with recipes from local families often laying the groundwork for the final meal along with whatever is in season and available nearby.

An amuse-bouche of scallop with curry oil and greens

Heirloom tomato salad with basil oil and whipped ricotta

Chicken with a corn sauce, succotash, and a beautifully (and deliciously) piece of fried chicken skin

Peach halves topped with Milk Sugar Love's Caramel Corn ice cream and a caramel peach puree

It's a very community-oriented event and being able to enjoy dinner outside in beautiful weather in a Jersey City park is a memorable experience. The dinner is $45pp and is a unique opportunity to help Jersey City, get to know your neighbors, and enjoy a professionally, creatively, and thoughtfully prepared meal. You can purchase tickets here.
