Celebrating Halloween 2016 in Jersey City


Halloween is always a lively time in Jersey City and this year is no exception. Celebrations begin this weekend so read below to start making your plans.

The biggest line-up of events is coming from LITM which is packed with Halloween fun both this weekend and next.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, LITM is part of the Zombie Bar Crawl Fundraiser for the Liberty Humane Society, starting at 5 p.m. They're also throwing an official after-party concert for the Ghost of Uncle Joe's cemetery show (edit - Ghost of Uncle Joe's was rescheduled for Sunday because of rain, but the after-parties are going on as planned) featuring bands dressing up and playing as musical greats. The lineup includes: Elvis Costello (10:30 p.m.), The Velvet Underground (11:20 p.m.), The Police (12:10 p.m.) and The Pixies (1:00 a.m.)

They'll have themed trivia for the next two Sundays including The X-Files on 10/23 

Then the following weekend, LITM has four full days of Halloween fun scheduled:
On Friday, Oct. 28, there's a Mad Wonderland Tea Party with all night tea-based cocktails, an Alice in Wonderland-themed selfie booth, Wonderland coloring pages, tarot readings by Antifragile Tarot and more.

Saturday, Oct. 29 marks the return  of Iconic Masquerade Lip Sync. No singing is actually required and the best mask wins a prize!

Sunday, 10/30 Trivia returns, this time on The Rocky Horror Picture Show 

Then on Halloween itself, Monday, Oct. 31st, LITM will have Halloween karaoke and their annual costume contest where the winner will take home $50

On top of the events, anyone in costume all Halloween weekend receives 10 percent off their tab from Friday, Oct. 28 through Monday, Oct. 30

But the party isnt just at LITM:
Saturday, 10/22 
  • Although not technically a Halloween event, there is a big Liberty Harbor block party on Regent Street happening from noon-5pm complete with food vendors like Grandma Downtown, Incrediballs, Cocoa Bakery and Squeeze'd. ***Postponed until Sunday b/c of rain***
  • The Ghost of Uncle Joe Fundraiser is back starting at 1pm with an excellent live band line-up, food from Koro Koro, Honey Bakery and Cal & Son's Hot Dogs as well as beer, prizes, and more for a $10 entry fee. ***Postponed until Sunday, 10/23 because of rain - but the afterparties at LITM and Porta will go on & they will have prizes for best costumes***
Thursday, 10/27
  • Squeeze'D and 8 Springs Studio are celebrating their partnership and the season with a Halloween party beginning at 5:30pm. There will be prizes for best costumes, food, games, trick or treating for kids, demos, a raffle and more. 
  • Battello is hosting a Music & Mischief Masquerade with musical acts Lion & Tiger and Martin Stahl starting at 8pm. Costumes are encouraged. 
  • Halftime Bar & Grill is throwing a Halloween party beginning at 9 pm with drink and shot specials. 
Friday, 10/28
  • Orale is starting a weekend full of events with a costume party on Friday night. There will be a DJ starting at 9pm with dancing, drinks, and a costume contest and they'll also have a special Mariachi brunch the following Sunday. 
Saturday, 10/29
  • The Spectral Gala at Cathedral Hall promises to be a great event with food and drinks from Orale, Third & Vine, NJ Beer Co & more. It begins at 8pm, is only for 21 and over,  and tickets are $45/person until noon on 10/24 at which point they'll increase to $55/person. Part of the proceeds will go to support 4th Street Arts. 
  • Zeppelin Hall is hosting Shocktoberfest, a mix of Oktoberfest and Halloween celebrations, starting at 9:30pm with a $500 prize for Best Costume, a DJ and dancing. 
  • The Terminal of Terror will open at 4pm for family-friendly events and then adults only beginning at 9pm. Music, dancing, costumes and lots of great food trucks will be there for both sessions. 
  • The Loew's at Journal Square is hosting an Addams Family Movie & Masquerade with snacks, music, dancing and a cash bar. The party runs from 6pm-1am. 
  • O'Leary's is having a Halloween bash with shot specials starting around 9pm, drink specials, a costume contest and more. 
Sunday, 10:30 
  • The Farmers Market at Lincoln Park is holding a Halloween Extravaganza next Sunday with a pumpkin patch and pumpkin coloring, halloween tattoos, parade, candy giveaway, and more. 

Monday, 10/31
  • The HDSID is throwing their third annual family-friendly Halloween Bash on the Pedestrian Plaza. There will be a DJ, face-painting, popcorn, and more. 
  • Beginning at 7:30pm, there will be a special performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Harsimus Cemetery. Food and drinks will be provided as part of the $15 cover and they'll have a costume contest. 
  • Archer Bar is having a party with DJs playing funk and soul all night beginning at 9pm with $5 bourbon punch and Abitas and $7 sazeracs and vieux carre
