Community News: Old World/New World Wine Class, JC West Side Chili Cook-Off, and more

Jersey City

  • The JC West Side Chili Cook-Off has been announced! It will be held on Sunday, 10/8 beginning at 12pm. If you're interested in competing, read the rules here
  • Congratulations to Bambino Chef on being featured on News 12 New Jersey to share some healthy, simple, fun lunch box ideas. 
  • Join Chris Leo of PS Wine Bar and Lourdes of the Vine for an Old World vs New World Wine Class on Tuesday 9/26 at 7pm. Tickets are $45/person.
  • Square 1 has updated their hours. They're now open Tuesday through Sunday from 8am-4pm and they'll soon be adding dinner a few nights a week.
  • The 4th Street Arts Chili Cook-Off and Mac & Cheese Extravaganza is coming up this Sunday!
  • Jimmy John's, a fast-casual sandwich chain, has opened their doors at 110 First Street. It's the first and only Jersey City location.
  • Reminder: This Thursday, 9/14 Satis Bistro is holding an Oktoberfest celebration with four courses with beer pairings. 
  • The Jersey City Brew Club is putting together a Homebrew Walking Tour for September 30th. Attendees will get to meet and taste different beers from homebrewers around Hudson County, learning more about different set-ups, techniques, brew styles and more.  
Outside Jersey City
  • hMAG reported that Porter Collins in Hoboken has closed their doors after six month in business. 
  • Chesapeake Bay Seafood Co., a major draw and seafood dining destination in Long Valley during the 80s and 90s, has been reimagined and reopened as The Chesapeake Tavern with much of the same staff and the same popular crabcakes. 
  • Boozy Burbs reports that the River Edge Diner has reopened after extensive interior and exterior renovations.
