Darke Pines Now Open

New butcher shop Darke Pines has opened at 332 Second Street in the former Citizen space.

After announcing their plans to open in downtown Jersey City last fall, Will and Erica Messmer launched a kickstarter to help them get the business started and began looking for an open space. They've spent the last several months redesigning, painting, and building out their storefront and they launched their soft open this past Saturday.

Right now, they only have beef and pork cuts available, but they'll soon start expanding their inventory with lamb, poultry, sausages, charcuterie, and sandwiches, with the majority of their suppliers coming from small farms throughout New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. They'll have a small selection of dry goods available as well and plan to keep everything as locally sourced as possible.

Darke Pines is the only butcher shop downtown, although Jersey City is also home to Moloney's near Journal Square and Pampita Butcher Shop in Jersey City Heights. The shop is open from 12-8pm every Tuesday through Friday and 11:30am-7pm on Saturdays. Stop by to welcome them to the neighborhood.
