Community News: Taphaus Paulus Hook Now Open, Charritos opens vegetarian location, and more

Jersey City

  • The Oak on Pine will celebrate their Grand Opening this Tuesday, 12/28 beginning at 5pm.
  • Congratulations to Bambino Chef, Wonder Bagels on Central Ave, Oh Honey, Lutze Biergarten, Hamilton Inn, and Hamilton Pork for their features in the most recent Jersey City magazine by the Hudson Reporter. 
  • Beginning Dec. 4th, the Journal Squared location of Whealth will be open until 8pm. To celebrate, they will be hosting a tree-lighting at 7:30pm.
  • Taphaus Paulus Hook at 201 Marin Boulevard is now open. It's located in the former Tilted Kilt spot and is the third location of Taphaus. 
  • The Jersey City Sikh community made the news last week when they arranged for and served meals to over 15,000 people in 84 homeless shelters across NY, NJ, and PA through Sikh organization Let's Share a Meal. 
  • Next Saturday 12/2, Jersey City Ties is holding their 7th Annual Holiday Toy Drive and Happy Hour at HopsScotch. The event will run from 1-4pm and all toys will be distributed to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hudson County. Cash donations are also accepted. 
  • City Council is expected to approve a new measure that would allow liquor stores to begin selling alcohol at 9am on Christmas and New Year's Eves, regardless of what day of the week they fall on. Under current law, if those days fall on a Sunday as they do this year, they are prohibited from selling liquor until 12pm.  
  • Gringo's Taco has started offering a brunch menu on the weekends as well as delivery and takeout.
  • Thirsty Quaker has started carrying bottles from Corgi Spirits, the Jersey City based distillery.

Outside Jersey City
  • Via Hoboken Girl, Hoboken's Charritos reopened their downtown location as a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. While they haven't updated their online menu yet, dishes like empanadas, chiles rellenos, and more will be on the menu and the restaurant will continue to be BYO. 
  • The search for NJ's Best Bakery is on and the list has been narrowed down to 50 semi-finalists. 
  • Green Bean Casserole was invented in NJ by Dottie Reilly of Haddonfield while she worked the Campbell Soup Company.
