Project Eats 2017 Meet the Vendor: Louie's BBQ Pit

The Jersey City Project's Project Eats 2017 is back on 6/24 and 6/25 with new vendors and returning favorites, all ready to serve up some delicious, indulgent eats. To help get you ready, I'm excited to be collaborating with The Jersey City Project to spotlight some of the vendors from this year's Project Eats, learning more about their business, their food, and what they love about Jersey City.

Meet Louie's BBQ Pit, a quality barbecue spot with Cuban touches from West New York inspired by the owner's son and the desire to make other people happy by feeding them.

Tell me about Louie's BBQ Pit - how did it get started?
We opened in March of 2015 and it's evolved into something much bigger and better than we could have ever imagined. It started with the Owners/ Chef- Luis Morilla (aka 'Big Lou') and his passion for feeding people! He loves his quality meat and making things better than people thought they would be.

What is the inspiration behind your food?
The restaurant is named after the Owner/Chef's son Luis A. Morilla who passed away in September 2010. He loved BBQ and loved his dad's food. Big Lou opened up Louie's BBQ Pit as a passion project. Life was getting harder and harder while dealing with his sons death and Lou needed something that he truly loved and that inspired him. He began to focus his energy on opening up a restaurant and cooking food he knew people would love!

What made you decide to be part of ProjectEats
We are part of the community. This is where we are located and what other way to give back to our community, right? We are very excited to meet and try other vendors.

Do you have a favorite item on your own menu? Personally, I'm looking forward to that Cuban Mojito Sauce!
Haha yes, that will most certainly be the best part! The sauce is delicious. Our brisket is definitely one of our favorites!

Taste the love - and great brisket - from Louie's BBQ Pit on Sunday, June 25th.
